Signs Your Water Heater Needs a Repair

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth a call before you’re stuck with a cold shower.

Tank Water Heaters

  • No hot water, or hot water that runs out fast
  • Water pooling or dripping at the base of the tank
  • Rumbling, popping, or banging noises
  • Discolored or rusty-looking hot water
  • A pilot light that won’t stay lit

Tankless Water Heaters

  • An error code on the display
  • Inconsistent water temperature
  • Reduced hot water flow
  • The unit shutting off mid-use

Water Heater Repairs We Handle

From a simple part swap to a full repair-or-replace assessment, here’s what we take care of.

Thermostat & Heating Element Repair

Diagnosis and replacement for tank units that won’t heat or won’t stay hot.

Pilot Light & Igniter Repair

Relighting, cleaning, and part replacement for gas units that won’t stay lit.

Sediment Flush & Maintenance

Routine flushing to clear buildup, reduce noise, and extend the life of your tank.

Tankless Control Board, Pump & Filter Repair

Manufacturer tech-support-guided diagnosis to pinpoint the failing part before any repair begins.

Repair-or-Replace Assessment

A clear, honest recommendation once we’ve seen the unit, so you know exactly why we’re suggesting what we’re suggesting.

Why a Water Heater Problem Shouldn't Wait

A small issue rarely stays small, especially with a tank quietly leaking in a closet or crawl space.

Avoid the cold shower

Most failures don’t fix themselves. Getting ahead of it means one less cold morning.

Stop a small leak early

A slow leak at the base of the tank can damage flooring and drywall the longer it runs.

Catch a failing unit early

Rumbling, discolored water, or a pilot that won’t stay lit are usually early warnings, not one-off flukes.

Get a straight repair-or-replace answer

Knowing your real options, and why, beats guessing or getting pushed into a bigger job than you need.

What to Expect When Your Water Heater Needs Attention

Simple, upfront, and stress-free, from the first call to the final fix.

I researched local plumbers and checked the Better Business Bureau before selecting a plumbing company to replace the polybutylene pipes in my home. I’m so glad I chose MyPlumberNow. Sean and his team were professional from the first communication through installation day and all the way to the final touches. Their quote wasn’t necessarily the lowest, but their timeline, workmanship, warranty and the overall experience proved they were the best value. For a major job like this, going cheap isn't the smartest option! I will absolutely turn to MyPlumberNow for any future plumbing needs and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. Thank you for a job well done and on time!

My plumber now made scheduling very easy and they were very reliable. The guy, Trevor, doing the plumbing repair was knowledgeable and able to share the details with me in a way that I could understand easily. He explained everything and even showed pictures. He kept everything in the house clean and tidy and I really appreciated that. Everyone I've come in contact with at this company has been very nice.

We had a leak in a pipe in the garage, I called My Plumber Now, they had Jerry and Caesar out by early afternoon. They didn’t have the specialty part in the truck but they went back to the shop and found one, they came right back and replaced it. We were only out of hot water for a few hours! Thanks so much!

I have used Sean several times troubleshooting work other plumbers have done. Not only is he very nice, but he's also very professional, prompt to respond, and on time. We will continue to use My Plumber Now ans Sean and we would ecommend him to anyone. This was the first time meeting Trevor and he is a mirror to Sean in his kindness and ability to cross everything off the list of the various jobs that pop up. Thank you My Plumber Now for such great service.

Overall the whole repair went off without a hitch! Our plumber was courteous and knowledgeable! He even offered to put a new toilet seat on that I was planning on installing myself! I was completely taken care of and was even asked if I had any other concerns. I will be recommending this company to all my neighbors! 😊👍

I had Trevor and Shawn out for a big scary water leak in our spare bathroom. I called and said it was a bit of an emergency and they came right out. Turns out it wasn’t a huge issue they had us fixed up and better than ever plus the cost was really more than reasonable. I recommend them. They are honest and fair with prices.

Water Heater Repair Questions, Answered

Usually, yes. No-hot-water and leaking-tank calls are treated as urgent, and we schedule same-day or next-day whenever possible.
It depends on the unit's age and the cost of the repair. As a general guideline, a tank water heater on the older side, or one where the repair cost starts approaching what a new unit would run, is usually a better candidate for replacement. We'll give you a specific recommendation after inspecting your unit, and can walk you through water heater installation if that's the better move. For background, you can also review the Department of Energy's water heater guidance.
Yes. Tankless repair typically starts with a manufacturer tech-support-guided diagnostic to identify whether the issue is the control board, pump, or filter.
We don't quote repair work over the phone. Every job gets an on-site diagnostic first, since the right price depends on what we find once we're there.
Often, yes. If your McMinnville home has a pressure-reducing valve, backflow preventer, or check valve on the main line, you have what's called a “closed” plumbing system, and Oregon plumbing code requires a way to control thermal expansion, usually a small expansion tank above the water heater. Without one, heated water has nowhere to go as it expands, which drives up pressure and stresses your tank, valves, and fittings. When we're out for a repair or a water heater installation, we check whether your system needs one and whether the existing tank is still doing its job.
An expansion tank absorbs the extra volume created when water heats and expands, keeping pressure in a safe range so it doesn't hammer your pipes or force water out the temperature-and-pressure (T&P) relief valve. When the tank fails, it usually “waterlogs,” meaning it loses its air charge and fills with water. Common signs are a T&P valve that drips or releases water, banging or knocking pipes, fluctuating water pressure, or an expansion tank that feels heavy and full all the way to the top. If you notice any of those, we can test the charge and replace the tank if needed.
Our regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Same-day and next-day scheduling covers most urgent water heater calls within that window. You can also book online anytime with our scheduling widget, or tap the chat button to text with us right from the site.
